Prep For Your Beauty Treatment
Before Waxing
1. Please make sure that your hair is approximately 1/4 of an inch long. This will ensure that you get the most efficient wax. Hair should not be longer or shorter. Gents are also advised to follow this rule for abdomen and back.
2. If you are more sensitive to waxing it is best to take your favorite pain reliever one hour before your appointment.
3. Please stay out of the sun and tanning beds 24 hours prior to the service and ALWAYS WEAR SUNSCREEN.
4. Do not apply lotion to skin being treated as it causes the wax to not sit on the skin properly.
5. Menstruating clients may find that they are more sensitive during or right before their cycle and may choose to postpone waxing services - however we're happy to offer service during your menstrual cycle, simply let us know so we prepare accordingly.
*If coming in for a Bikini or Brazilian Wax please be sure the area is clean and ready for the service. We make sure that we uphold the utmost standards regarding cleanliness; we hope you will too :)
After Waxing
1. It is best to wait 24 hours before doing any strenuous activity after your wax. It is best to stay out of hot tubs pools and lakes and the sun/tanning beds for the first 24 hours as well. This will ensure that the skin does not become irritated or infected.
2. Ingrown hairs are common. To help avoid in-growns it is best to exfoliate and moisturize the area gently once a day.
3. After your wax it is normal for your skin to look like "chicken skin" and see redness and some pinpoint bleeding. Don't fret as your skin will go back to normal within a couple of days. Please keep this in mind before making your appointment.
Before Electrolysis
1. Avoid stimulants like caffeine, chocolate and sugar on the day of the appointment.
2. Female clients may find that they are more sensitive during or right before their menstrual cycle and will want to avoid making appointments at that time.
3. Avoid sun exposure 48 hours prior to your appointment to avoid dilation of blood vessels.
4. Make sure that you are hydrated the day of your visit. Dehydrated follicles are harder to treat. The hydration will help you heal faster after the treatment as well.
5. Some find a meal before the treatment helps reduce discomfort.
6. Taking your favorite pain reliever one hour prior will help make your appointment more comfortable.
After Electrolysis
1. Following your treatment please do not scratch or touch. This will lessen bacteria transfer from your hands to your face.
2. Do not wash the area or wear make-up on the treated area for 72 hours. You can wipe with witch hazel, if needed.
3. Avoid alcohol and perfume based products.
4. Apply Neosporin, Polysporin, Bacitracin or other antibacterial ointment to the treated area with q-tips or clean hands. This will help you heal faster. If your skin is irritated on the second day apply a Hydrocortisone cream (Cortisone, Cortaid, anything with 1% hydrocortisone or hydrocortisone acetate). It is an anti-inflammatory and will reduce swelling and redness.
5. Avoid excessive sweating after treatment. Exercise before your appointment instead of after.
6. Avoid sun exposure for 72 hours and ALWAYS WEAR SUNSCREEN. Your skin produces pigment in order to protect against UV rays. Skin that has been traumatized or injured can over-produce pigment in those areas. This can result in hyper-pigmentation or brown spots.
7. Do not go swimming for 48 hours after treatment.
8. If scabs appear do not scratch them away. This can cause scarring. Allow the scabs to fall off naturally. This is nature's way of healing the follicle that has been treated. (The scabs are lymph fluid that has drained and dried). Keeping the area moisturized will often curtail the formation of scabs. If discomfort does occur in treated areas apply an Epsom salt compress: add 1 tsp. Epsom salt to 1/2 cup warm water, mix and soak up with a wash cloth. Lay the washcloth over the treated area for 10 minutes and repeat until discomfort subsides.
9. If you are prevented from coming in for your next treatment when you would like, please DO NOT TWEEZE. Instead clip or shave.
10. Remember, some re-growth is to be expected. If you return when the first re-growth occurs, the roots are shorter and weaker and can be treated more effectively.
